# How do I Reset a Forgotten Password?

If you're having trouble signing in to your [August account](https://account.august.com/login) because you can't remember your password, you can use **Forgot Password** to create a new password on your phone or computer.

To reset your password:

  

1.  In the August app, tap **Sign In** and follow in-app setup screens.
2.  Tap **Forgot Password**.
3.  Enter your mobile phone number.
    *   If you have a non-U.S. number, tap the **1** next to the phone number field and select your country code.
4.  You should then receive a text message with a 6-digit code from August. Enter the code into the text field to continue.
5.  Enter the email address that you used to set up your August account. August will send a security code to this email address.
6.  Check your email inbox after submitting your email address. You should have received an email from August with a security code. Check your spam folder if the email is not in your inbox.
7.  Once you retrieve the email with the security code, enter the code in the text field of the August app.
8.  Follow the in-app instructions to create a new password.

  

  

❗**_Still unable to reset your password?_** Try signing in using your email address instead of your phone number.

  

❗**_Receiving an error?_** If you receive an **api\_authentication\_error** while resetting your password, the email and/or phone number used to authenticate the account do not match the credentials on the account.

  

#### Password Requirements

It is necessary that the new password satisfies August’s password complexity requirements:

  

*   At least one uppercase letter
*   At least one lowercase letter
*   At least one number
*   At least one non-alphanumeric character

  

The credentials associated with the August account are necessary to complete the password reset steps. 

  

If password reset continues to fail, do not attempt to recreate a new account using your existing account info. Instead, [contact the Customer Support team](https://support.august.com/en_us/contacting-august-support-rJeev8JAuf).
