This article will cover how to remote access your smart lock based on the type of lock you have.

## Smart Lock iO, Wi-Fi Smart Lock, Smart Lock 3rd Gen, or Smart Lock Pro

❗ **_Have a_** [**_Wi-Fi Smart Lock_**](https://august.com/products/august-wifi-smart-lock)**_?_** Your smart lock has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities that allow you to access your lock remotely. You can pair your Wi-Fi Smart Lock with a Wi-Fi bridge if you would like to use that instead, but it is not necessary.

  

Other August Smart Lock models require a Wi-Fi bridge, such as [Connect](http://august.com/products/august-connect-wifi-bridge/) or [Doorbell Cam](http://august.com/products/doorbell-camera/), to connect remotely.

  

The app will seamlessly connect over the best method available, choosing between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi automatically. Simply open the app and navigate to your lock screen and the app will do the rest for you.

  

❗**_The icon in the upper right of the lock screen will indicate how you are currently connected to your lock._**

## Smart Locks - 1st or 2nd Gen

To connect to your lock remotely, follow these steps:

  

1.  In your August app, go to your lock screen.  
    ❗**_Have more than one lock__?_** Select your lock from the keychain and go to the lock circle.
    
2.  Tap the gray Wi-Fi icon in the top right hand corner.
    
3.  The Wi-Fi Icon changes color when you are connected to the lock remotely.
    

  

You are now able to access your lock when you are away from home.
