This article will walk you through troubleshooting false battery alerts on your August Smart Lock or August Smart Keypad.

### How will I know what the battery level is on my August device?

**For Smart Locks:** There is no way to check the battery level for your August locks in the August app, but you will be notified when the batteries need to be replaced.

**For Smart Keypads:** You can check the battery status for your Smart Keypad in your **Keypad** **Settings**.
💡 **_You will need to be within Bluetooth range of your keypad to check its battery level._**

### What happens when my device is low battery?

Once your device's batteries reach 25% capacity, a low-battery notification appears on your phone’s unlock screen. You may wish to replace the batteries when you see this notification.

If you don’t replace the batteries at this time, you will begin receiving daily emails and push notifications as the batteries approach the end of their life. Should you receive these notifications, it is imperative that you replace the batteries immediately:

*   **Wi-Fi Smart Lock** - 2 3V CR123 or CR123A lithium (non-rechargeable) batteries
* **All other August Smart Locks** - 4 new AA alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries
* **August Smart Keypads** - 2 alkaline (non-rechargeable) AAA batteries

After replacing the batteries, operate your device 3 times using the August app. This should stop the low-battery alerts until the next time the batteries reach 25% capacity.

❗ **_You must operate the lock over Bluetooth or remotely if you have an August Wi-Fi bridge._** Operating your lock manually will not stop the low-battery notifications.
