Previous versions required an accessory, the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, to support remote operations. Like previous versions, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock also supports local operations using Bluetooth.

Battery life varies based on how often the lock is operated, the friction in your deadbolt, Wi-Fi signal strength, and the settings on your Wi-Fi router. Under typical conditions with Wi-Fi enabled, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock will have a battery life of up to 3 months.

## How will I know when the batteries need to be replaced?

You will first receive a notification in the app letting you know that your batteries need replacing. Then you will receive an email notification. Timely battery changes are essential to the performance of your lock.

## How do I switch from my current smart lock to the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock?

Install your August Wi-Fi Smart Lock using the instructions in the August app. Once this is done, add owners and guests to the lock just like you did with your existing August Smart Lock. It’s beneficial to set up the new lock before factory resetting the existing lock as once the new lock is added, you can select each user from the Guest List and grant access to the new lock.

## How do I reset my current August Smart Lock?

You can perform a factory reset on any of your August Smart Locks from the Lock Settings menu of your lock. In the August App, navigate to the “House Settings” for the House that contains the lock you would like to reset. Tap on “Lock Settings” for the lock and then tap “Factory Reset”. Confirm your desire to reset the lock, and your lock will be removed from the house. Please remember that factory resetting will remove access to the lock for you and all other Owners and Guests. It will also delete the lock’s history from your Activity Feed and unpair it from all August accessories.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have a keypad paired with your lock, you must reset the keypad before you will be able to reset the lock.

## Can I set my lock up again after I factory reset it?

Yes! Once a lock has been factory reset you can set it up again using the August App. You’ll have the chance to set it up for a different door or a different house entirely.

## What Wi-Fi frequencies and standards does the Wi-Fi Smart Lock support?

The lock supports 802.11 b/g/n on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.

## How does the lock work if my Wi-Fi stops working?

Your August Wi-Fi Smart Lock connects seamlessly to the August App via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, depending on which connection is available. If your Wi-Fi is down in your home, you will still be able to connect to your lock over Bluetooth. This may take up to a few seconds depending on the model of your phone since different devices have different Bluetooth implementations.

## Do I need an August Wi-Fi Bridge?

Because it has built-in Wi-Fi, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock does not require an August Wi-Fi bridge. However, the lock is still compatible with the Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, which can be paired with the lock to increase battery life.

## How do I use my Wi-Fi Smart Lock with the August Connect?

You may choose to use the August Connect to enable Wi-Fi for your lock. The best way to do that is to disconnect the Wi-Fi Smart Lock from Wi-Fi from within the Lock Settings menu. Then go to Set up devices and select the August Connect.

## How does the Wi-Fi Smart Lock communicate with HomeKit?

The Wi-Fi Smart Lock communicates with HomeKit over Bluetooth. If you want to use Siri or the Home App to operate your Wi-Fi Smart Lock while you are away from home, a HomeKit bridge such as AppleTV (Gen 4), Homepod, or iPad, is needed.

## What batteries does the Wi-Fi Smart Lock take?

The Wi-Fi Smart Lock requires two (2) 3V CR123 or CR123A Lithium batteries (Panasonic are recommended). We do not recommend using rechargeable batteries because of their limited capacity.

## Do I need to use the included cover plate when installing my Wi-Fi Smart Lock?

The cover plate is optional, but may be a good choice for you if you find that the Wi-Fi Smart Lock does not cover the entire cut-out for your deadbolt.

## What third-party integrations does the Wi-Fi Smart Lock support?

You can control and get updates from your lock through our integrations with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings. You can learn more [here](https://august.com/pages/works-with).

The Wi-Fi Smart Lock does not support Z-Wave communication so it will not work with hubs that require Z-Wave for connectivity.
