**PLEASE NOTE: This integration sends out a message to the guest inside the Airbnb app.**

In order for this integration to work properly, **only the primary host\* can pair their August Account with their Airbnb account**. If a co-host pairs their Airbnb and August accounts, the Airbnb message will not be sent to the guest. In the event that Airbnb messages are not being sent, please contact Customer Support: [support@august.com](mailto:support@august.com).

**\* Who is the primary host?**

The profile account on the Airbnb listing page is considered the primary host.

# FAQ

### How does Airbnb work with my Smart Lock?

Smart Locks provide Airbnb hosts with an easy, automated solution for managing access to vacation rentals.

### How do I set up automated access to my Airbnb property for guests using an August Smart Lock?

Follow these steps to give your Airbnb guests access to your rental property:

#### Step 1: Connect Your August App and Airbnb Accounts

* In the August App select the **Works With** tab
*   Select **Airbnb**
*   Select **Connect to Airbnb**
*    Enter your Airbnb account information
* As a Host, you will see each of your Airbnb listings

#### Step 2: Pair Your Locks to Airbnb Listing(s)

Pair lock(s) with the associated listing for all of your Airbnb rentals. If you have multiple locks on one rental home, select only the locks that you want to make available to guests.

#### Step 3: Select Access Type

There are two ways to facilitate access to your Airbnb rental for your guests: August App Access or Keypad Access.

###
How can guests access the lock?

#### Access via the August App

* Guests receive an Airbnb message with instructions to download the August App, create an account, and connect it to their Airbnb account.
* Guest are then able to view the upcoming reservation in the app.
* Guests can use the app to unlock/lock the door during their rental period.
* Guest access is automatically revoked when the reservation ends.

#### Access via the Keypad (if applicable)

* The August App sends an Airbnb message with a personal entry code to the guest once their reservation is confirmed.
* The code is valid for the duration of the reservation.
* If the reservation date/time is changed, the time period that the code is valid will change accordingly, but the entry code stays the same.
* If the reservation is canceled, the code is deactivated.

#### Notes About Keypad Use

* If you enable keypad access, the app auto-generates a random personal entry code for your guest.
* When the keypad feature is enabled, guests are not required to install the app.
* You can offer your guests keypad and app access by selecting both access options.
* We recommend that hosts enable the One Touch Lock feature so that guests can easily lock the door when they leave.

#### Products required for auto-keypad codes include:

*   2nd or 3rd Generation Smart Lock
*   Smart Keypad
* August Connect or Doorbell Cam

### Once I enable the integration, will it generate codes for bookings that are in the future, but were made prior to the integration being enabled?

Entry codes are only generated for future bookings once the integration is enabled. Bookings made prior to the integration being enabled will not have codes generated, regardless of when they occur. We do not receive any data on bookings made prior to the integration.

### When will the guest receive the entry code? When will it be active?

The guest will receive the code in their Airbnb reservation confirmation after booking. The code will not be valid until the date/time of check-in agreed upon in the booking. The code will be disabled at the time of check-out.

### Do I need an August Connect to participate?

For home access via keypad, an August Connect or Doorbell Cam is required to automatically set the personal entry codes on the lock.

For home access via app, an August Connect is not required. However, a Connect is recommended if you would like to remotely operate the August Smart Lock. If your guest does not have a compatible phone ([check compatibility here](https://support.august.com/phone-compatibility-HyWRI8yA_z)), you have the option to remotely unlock the property for them. In this case, an August Connect needs to be paired with the Smart Lock.

### What if my guest does not want to use the Smart Lock?

Confirmed guests receive an Airbnb message requesting that they contact you to make alternate arrangements if they are not interested in using the Smart Lock.

### How do I remove an Airbnb Guest from my lock if I no longer want them to have access to the property?

If you need to revoke access to your property from someone who has rented it through Airbnb, you need to end their reservation through Airbnb. If you end the reservation via the Airbnb app any time before the reservation is up, then August will follow the Airbnb integration and remove their access as well.

For example, if a Guest books your property from 3:00PM 1/1/20 to 11:00AM on 1/5/20 and you decide to delete their lock access through the August App on 1/4/20 then the Airbnb integration will override this request and regrant that Guest access up until 1/5/20 11:00AM.

### I have a cleaning service for my rental property. What's the best way for me to give them access?

For in-home service personnel like a cleaning crew, we recommend creating a unique entry code in your app. You may choose to make this a permanent (always on) code, scheduled (ex. Only valid on Tuesdays) or temporary code with an expiration date. You will be able to see from your Activity Feed (or notifications if enabled) when this code is used so that you know when the service has been provided.

### Does the integration work with co-hosts?

At this time, the integration does not work with co-hosts.

## Notes Regarding Access via Mobile App

### What if the guest’s phone battery dies?

Your guest can use another phone to log into their account. They can also always use the lock's Keypad if you have that feature enabled for them.

### What if the guest’s phone is not compatible with the app?

The guest can call the host to remotely unlock the property (Connect required). They can also always use the lock's Keypad if you have that feature enabled for them.

### What if the guest doesn't have cellphone coverage or a data plan?

The host can share their Airbnb property's Wi-Fi credentials ahead of time, enabling the guest to connect their phone to the residence's Wi-Fi at the door. They can also always use the lock's Keypad if you have that feature enabled for them.

### What if only some of my guests are interested in using Smart Lock?

You can store a physical key inside your property and share its location with the guest. Guests can start using the physical key once they enter property using the Smart Lock.

### How will potential guests know that my Airbnb property is equipped with a Smart Lock?

In the **Amenities** section of your Airbnb listing, you can add, “This property supports keyless access powered by Home.”

### I received the error, “There was a problem loading your Airbnb information.”

The ratio between Airbnb and August accounts is 1:1. If you receive this error while setting up the integration between August and Airbnb, it indicates that the Airbnb account you’re trying to link to your account is already tied to an August Account. The Main Host for the Airbnb listing should also be the Owner of the August Lock. If you are having issues connecting with the lock, check with other Owners of the August lock to confirm if another user has already linked the Airbnb account you are attempting to link with their August account.

### I did not receive the Airbnb message.

If there are multiple Hosts linked to the property, only the Main Host that linked the Airbnb with the August Account will receive the Airbnb message. If you are a Co-Host or Primary Host on the property, you will not receive an Airbnb message.

### How do I disconnect my Airbnb account from my August account?

If you decided you no longer want to use the Airbnb and August integration, you can disconnect your accounts with the following steps:

1. Open the August App
2. Navigate to **Works With** from the side menu
3. Scroll to **Airbnb**
4. Select **DISCONNECT**
5. You will receive a notification to confirm you wish to disconnect your accounts.

# FAQ

### How do I use a Smart Lock for my upcoming Airbnb reservation?

When making an Airbnb reservation, the Amenities section may state whether the property supports keyless entry. After a reservation is confirmed by the Main Host, Guests will receive a welcome Airbnb message with instructions about how to unlock and lock the door during the reservation period.

Your access to the home will depend on the setup the Host uses at the property. There are 3 possible ways to access an Airbnb that uses an August Smart Lock:

1. Access Using the App
2. Access Using the Keypad
3. Access Using Either App or Keypad

The different types of home access are outlined in the [Types of Home Access](#access-types) section below.

If the property does not have a Keypad, or you would like to use your phone to unlock the door, you need to download the August App and link it to your Airbnb account before your stay. If the reservation confirmation message contains an entry code, you can skip this step and use the Keypad to enter the property if preferred.

After a reservation is confirmed by the Host, Guests will receive a welcome email with instructions about how to unlock and lock the door during the reservation period.

### Types of Home Access

#### 1) Access Using the App

* If the Host authorizes access using the app, we will send an email with instructions about how to install the August mobile app, create a Yale account, and connect it to the guest’s Airbnb account.
* The guest will then be able to view the upcoming reservation.
* Guest access will be valid for the duration of the reservation.

_For Guests based outside of the United States: When creating an account, it is important that you are able to receive text messages from the United States. This is part of the account verification process. If you do not receive a text message during this process, you must make alternate arrangements to access the Airbnb home._

#### 2) Access Using the Keypad

* If the Host authorizes access using the Smart Keypad, we will send an email with a personal entry code to the guest once the reservation is confirmed.
* The code will be valid for the duration of the reservation.
* If the reservation date/time is changed, the period of time that the code is valid will also change accordingly, but the entry code will remain the same.
* If the reservation is canceled, the code will be deactivated.

#### 3) Access Using Either App or Keypad

If the Host authorizes access using either the app or Smart Keypad, the guest has the option to use the entry code or the mobile app.

### There are additional guests in my reservation. Will they be able to use the Smart Lock too?

**Access via App:** Only the primary Airbnb guest receives automatic access. You will have to send your guests’ phone numbers to the host, so the host can grant access to your additional guests.

**Access via Keypad:** You can share the personal entry code with your travel partners, but it should not be shared with others who are not authorized to enter the home.

### Using the Keypad to Lock and Unlock the Door

* Locate the rectangular keypad near the door of the Airbnb rental.
* Enter your personal entry code on the keypad.
* Press the red, circular button at the bottom of the keypad.
* The keypad light will pulse and then flash when the lock operation has been completed.
* You can unlock and lock the door using the same method.
* When locking the door after you leave the home, confirm that the door is locked by attempting to open the door.
* If the unlock or lock operation fails, contact your Airbnb host for assistance.

### Notes on Auto-Lock and Keypad One Touch Lock:

**Auto-Lock:** The host may also have the lock set to Auto-Lock after closing the door. The host may note this in any instructions available about the home. If Auto-Lock is enabled, you would not have to enter the keypad code to lock the door.

**Keypad One Touch Lock:** The host may also have the keypad set to One-Touch Lock. If so, when you leave the home, you can simply press the red, circular button to lock the door.

_Please check with your host to see if these features are enabled during your stay._
